CHALLENGE

Bring in natural daylight to meet the Italian standards. Infinity Motion used a daylighting calculation program developed at the Politecnico di Milano by Professor Alessandro Rogora, to verify the light level stipulated by the Commission Internationale de l’Eclairage (International Commission on Illumination) standard. This project was extremely ambitious for two reasons: 1) The light collector needed to be placed on a vertical wall with a Southern orientation 2) The internal partitions involved work environments that are 6 m, 9 m, 11 m, 15 m, 18 m, 21 m, and 27 m away from the location of the wall penetration.

FACILITY

Dental Office, Medical Building

OVERVIEW

Natural daylight in the workplace is known to lead to higher levels of concentration, increased productivity, improved morale and better health through the reduction of stress and fatigue. Italy’s health and hygiene regulations recognize this necessity for daylight in the workplace and has established natural light minimums in all regularly occupied workplaces. Iopsalute, Ltd, a new dental office project in Pescara, Italy presented a difficult lighting challenge to architect, Stefano Agnello. The undeveloped space had to be divided into nine dental examination areas with only one window to provide natural daylight. This was a perfect lighting project for Mr. Agnello to collaborate with Infinity Motion, Ltd to obtain the Proper Daylight Factor through the use of Solatube® Daylighting Systems.

SOLUTION

This solution was presented to the local authority of Pescara and the Solatube SolaMaster® 330 DS-C not only complied with the building standards, but the daylight measurements well exceeded the values predicted by the standard EN 12464. The office was carefully evaluated and was approved to proceed with work.
“The extrapolated data far exceeded the performance expectations for the project to the satisfaction of the Majority Shareholder Attorney Francis Serone and the designer and architect, Stefano Agnellow. “Infinity Motion was proud to have participated in a project with the highly ambitious and professional group of people from deign to installation. The domes also provide a beautiful and unusual addition to the facade of the building.”
