How a Daylighting System Installation works

As well as Solatube daylighting systems, we also offer professional installation services and are pleased to explain below some of our installation procedures so you know what to expect from us.

Our installation service covers most areas of the southern UK and we use our own installers, employed by us, to carry out installations – both residential and commercial.

All our installers and authorised dealers are fully trained and approved in the installation of Solatube Daylighting Systems. We hold full insurances and qualifications to work at height safely and because our own installers work on commercial premises too, they are particularly well qualified in order to meet the stringent health, safety and environmental requirements.

So, if you don't fancy installing it yourself simply follow these steps:
“ I was immediately impressed with your installers who took great care of me, my house and importantly, themselves. It was so good to witness the attention paid in regard to safety; giving me a briefing, using a harness on the roof and tying off their ladder securely. The installation was completed without fuss and it was a highly professional job all round. I will recommend Solatube and the installation service to anyone who cares to ask. Thank you.”

Step 1: Book an appointment

When our residential customers book an installation with us, we agree on a date for the installation and make a quick phone call the day before to ensure the customer will be present and advise them of our estimated time of arrival.

Step 2: Arrival and assessment

On arrival at your home, we shall carry out a brief on-site assessment prior to commencing installation. The assessment takes into account the health and safety of both the installers and our customers, the weather conditions, access to the proposed location(s) and suitability of the product(s) to be installed. Installation would typically take around 3-4 hours per system.

Step 3: Check the placement

Before we start the installation, we discuss the installation with you to ensure the dome is placed in the best position to capture the most daylight and ceiling diffuser is placed as close as possible to your preferred location. Do bear in mind that joists/rafters/water pipes/cables etc in your home may have some bearing on the final position of the Daylighting System, but we will always do our best to meet your requirements and get the best from your Solatube system.

“Excellent, trouble free installation. Knowledgeable installers who worked quietly and efficiently. Left job clean and tidy and who respected my home. Receiving the benefits already from a dark upstairs landing to a light and bright area.”

Well stocked and prepared

We will have done our best to understand your requirements based on the initial survey we carried out or the information you have provided to us at the point of order, however, sometimes unforeseen obstructions in the roof void (such as water tanks, pipes or joists) mean that a longer tube length or additional angles may be needed to complete the installation. We carry contingency stock, so should you unexpectedly require an additional tube or angle, we can accommodate this without having to make a return visit.

We also carry the full range of ceiling fittings, so you can try out the whole range and choose your preference – subtly frosted, sparkling OptiView, plain prismatic or elegant glass effect! - View range

Electricals

With regard to electrical accessories such as bathroom ventilation kit or electric light kit, we will fit these into your Solatube Daylighting System as long as they are on an existing circuit. If a new circuit is required, we would need to appoint a qualified electrician at cost.

Worst case scenarios

We are very experienced in the installation of daylighting systems – even in the trickiest situations – but, in the unlikely event that we are unable to proceed owing to site accessibility or obstructions, or if we deem the installation to be too high a risk in terms of health and safety, you will be refunded for both goods and installation costs.

Rain does not usually stop play (for long), but high winds or icy roofs can obviously be a hazard for our installers. If installation is postponed owing to inclement weather, we shall not make a further charge to return to complete the installation works.

Warranty

Our Solatube Daylighting Systems carry a 10-year manufacturer’s product warranty; installations undertaken by ourselves carry a 3-year Installation Warranty for the work carried out.
“I just wanted to drop you a quick note to let you know how happy I am with the Solatube installed this morning. I was very much a sceptic in terms of how good it would be and I'm pleased to say it doesn't disappoint!

The guys onsite were the most professional I've had in my home so please can you make sure this is fed back to them - top blokes!”
